It has been almost ten years sense the Varden defeated Galbatorix and rebuilding after the war is still in progress. Eragon and Murtagh are no longer enemies and spend most of their time keeping the peace while Nasuada has become the queen of Alagaesia. The elves have retreated back into the forest for the most part but some others have decided to live among the humans. The urgals were given a great section of land where Carvahall used to be all the way down to about one mile from Therinsford and there is peace. Saphira and Thorn have mated a few times are now many new dragon eggs. Peace lasted for another five years until through some unknown magic a new ruler came to claim the thrown. He tossed out Nasuada and all good peoples from the city Uru'baen, taking the throne for himself.
Now the urgals have retreated back into their old lands and Alagaesia returned to the way it was before. The Varden have re-united to once again attempt the impossible and take back the throne from this new evil rider, Balthazar. Fear grips at them even more now however, for they have discovered that as powerful as Galbatorix was he was simply a puppet controlled by Balthazar.
The only thing that seems to be good for the Varden is that now they have both Eragon and Murtagh on there side as well as ten of the twenty dragon eggs that Saphira had. Unfortunately the other ten are still in the possession of Balthazar. Both factions are now racing to see if they can get their eggs to hatch before Balthazar gains knowledge of the Vardens hiding place, now in Du Weldenvarden. The dwarves defend their homes from constant attack with the help of Murtagh and Thorn while Eragon and Saphira stay with the elves and the Varden, helping to place new and more powerful wards around the forest to protect them.
So far Balthazar has not decided to come out and attack and seems content to do as Galbatorix before him did and stay in Uru'Baen, only venturing out when his dragon Silva wants to fly and have fun. He searches for the same answer that had eluded his puppet Galbatorix and still eludes him. Can the Varden again accomplish the impossible and defeat this powerful opponent or will Balthazar remain in power until he destroys every last member of the resistance and expands his reach across all or Alagaesia and dominate the world with his new order of dragon riders?
