Character's attitude: A loyal and honest individual, Faolán is smart and creative. Selfless and quiet, it is hard for him to express himself to many, without several people thinking he is arrogant or vain. Fast and aggressive in battle, Faolán prides himself as a master swordsmen and archer. He is decent in magic; decent when compared to other elves.
Faolán's goal is to rescue his human lover from the clutches of the Empire. Besides this goal, Faolán wishes for peace for all races, although he is not inclined to be a pacifist when it comes to fighting the enemy or helping his friends when they are in danger.

Other Info: In all his 110 years, he has only fallen in love with one person: Tara. She is a human who is 23. He meet her when she was 20. They despised each other at first because Tara was sarcastic, rude, and selfish; she was with the Varden at the time. She left the Varden on a mission but was never heard or seen from again. Bereft, Faolan continues to search for news of her.
History: Born in Ellesmera, Faolán studied and trained in the sword and magic. He was raised to be a warrior and guardian for the Royal House and thus knows Arya fairly well and is one of her most trusted confidants. He grew up during the Rider's war and thus knows the pains of war, for his Father was killed during it.
He was one of the first companions that journeyed with Arya when she became the Egg Carrier, but due to her and the Queen's differences, he was revoked from guarding her and was placed back into the palace. He was replaced, but knew that Fäolin, who he knew, would guard Arya well; he had his suspicions that he was wooing her.
During this time, when he visited the Varden, he meet Tara. Stubborn, selfish, and rude, they disagreed much with each other. However, Faolan learned of her soft and compassionate side and began to court her. He also found a hawk that was injured and with Tara they healed, nursed, and trained the hawk together. Jade, the hawk, only listens to Faolan and Tara.
When he was in Ellesmera, Tara went on a mission for the Varden but disappeared. Dismayed, he temporarily went mad in trying to find her; the news of Arya's suppose death didn't help him either.
After Arya returned to Ellesmera and explained her story, she convinced Faolan to return to serving her and perhaps gain more leads on Tara's disappearance.
Constantly trying to find leads to Tara, Faolan gathers as much information whenever he travels. Now, that the Queen and Arya have reconciled, he is now placed back as her escort and bodyguard (though why she needs it is unknown to her).
Since his name bears the resemblance in sound and spelling of Arya's dead companion, Arya sometimes calls him Fäolin, which confirms their possible relationship. Though they are close, Faolan and Arya have only one difference: Arya constantly urges him to not love a human, especially one that is so much younger than he is. He suspects it is because she may have some feelings towards Eragon, but because of his age and Faolan's suppose failure at his own love, she voices her negative opinions.
He continues to guard Arya and search for Tara.

Faolán stared at the dark blue sky, basking in its beauty and reverence. With Jade perched on his right shoulder, he counted the stars, wondering if Tara was alive and staring at the same dark sky.
As he stared, Arya appeared beside him. He smiled, knowing that she was the best and stealthiest elf he had ever encountered. He greeted her in the Elven way and she in turn did as well.
"All is well?" He asked her while Jade eyed the Princess carefully.
"I am returning to the Varden tomorrow."
"I see." His eyes gazed up at the stars.
"I would like it if you would accompany me. I would need you in this dark hour."
"I will do as you command." He whispered.
She placed a hand on his. "This is a request, not an order, Faolán. You are one of my trusted friends and adviser. I will need your strength and wisdom when we fight the Empire."
He sighed and smiled at her. "Then you shall have it, along with Jade." He tickled the hawk's throat. She chirped in response.
They resumed their star gazing, knowing that the future would be bloody before peace would arise.
