Character's name: Elva
Character's age: exact age is unknown. She's less than a year, but looks like she's seven, and has all the knowledge and experience of an adult.
Character's attitude: Elva's attitude has changed only slightly since Eragon released her of his spell. She is no longer sullen and hiding, but she is still bitter of the years that the spell has stolen from her. She sometimes uses her knowledge of people weaknesses to manipulate them, but more often than not follows her conscience. She is not always with Nasuada anymore, though she still feels a small sense of duty to the Varden. She is very independant and sometimes wanders away from the Varden alone.
Character's race: human
Character's appearance: Elva appears to be a seven year old girl with glossy black hair and violet eyes. She has a star shaped mark on her forhead, similar to the Gedwey Ignasia of the Riders. Her voice, which is as much part of her appearance as her body, sounds like the voice of an adult because of all the suffering she has been exposed to. Her clothing is often a black dress, the only color being around the collar.
Character's allegiance: Her own conscience. She sometimes helps others, but doesn't always anymore.
Other info: Elva is not an averege human. Magic courses through her blood stronger than it ever has in any other human, magic that she has to struggle to control. It often causes her to act before she has time to think. She is in constant fear of losing control of herself to the magic.
History: Elva was born in Farthen Dur. Her father was killed while trying to deliver a messege to Jeod in Teirm, and her mother died of illness shortly after the girl was born. She was given into the care of an old woman. When Eragon and Saphira arrived in Farthen Dur, Elva's guardian wished for the Rider to give the child a blessing. One day she found her chance. Eragon was mounting Saphira, preparing to fly to the dragonhold, so the old woman caught him by the ankle and insisted on getting a blessing for the girl from him. Eragon reluctantly agreed. None present could foresee the disater this would cause. Saphira also gave the girl a blessing: a silvery, star-shaped mark upon her brow.
Weeks passed, and the girl who was blessed faded from the minds of the Varden. Until Nasuada recieved summons to come visit the child. During those weeks, she girl, Elva by name, had been aware of more suffering than any child, much less any infant, should know. She knew she could do nothing as a baby, so she used the magic in her to grow several years older and learned how to speak. As soon as she did, she requested Nasuada come to her.
As soon as Nasuada stepped in the room, Elva felt her distress over things happening in the Varden, her worry that she would not live up to her father's name. The magic in Elva caused her to tell Nasuada that she would lead the Varden just as well and better than Ajihad did. Having that assurance, Nasuada listened to all the girl had to say. Once Nasuada left, it again seemed that Elva would pass from memory.
But she was not yet finished with the leader of the Varden. Elva one day sensed that a strong magician loyal to Galbatorix would attempt to assassinate Nasuada. Elva realized what this would mean for the Varden, so she had to make sure it would not happen. She fairly ran through the castle, making her way to Nasuada's chambers. When the guards blocked her path, she jumped on them and bit them, losing much energy by fighting her spell. She quickly burst through the door, barely in time to save Nasuada from being killed. Continuing to fight the magic in her, she told Nasuada what she knew of the man trying to kill her.
After the excitment died down, Nasuada realized the value in keeping Elva near, so she used the girl as a body guard. Elva foiled several other attempts on Nasuada's life secretly, such as poison in her food once.
When Eragon reached the Burning Plains, Elva felt anger boiling in her, though she knew there was nothing to be done. She hated Eragon for what he did, yet she knew it was a mistake, so she forgave him. When he told her that he could release the spell, she felt her heart leap within her and began to hope as she scarcely ever allowed herself to hope before. Yet she realized that she could not have her freedom quite yet. She had to protect Nasuada during the battle and Eragon needed to preserce his strength.
After the battle on the Burning Plains, Elva went out to survey the losses. She had to resist the urge to help the dying soldiers. Walking out there, she picked her way through arrows, swords, and bodies. She found a small dagger lying on the ground, its former owner slain. She picked it up, deciding that it would be useful later.
Soon after Eragon's return from rescuing Katrina, he fufilled his promise and released her of his spell. She still feels the suffering of the others around her, which is sometimes still enough to drive her mad, but she is no longer compulsed to help them. As a result, she has become very independant, acting only on what her conscience tells her to do.
Role-play sample: Elva made her way through the castle, taking no notice of the heat. That part of the castle was deserted, for they were near her own rooms. She needed to get away from the people for a while. All the suffering. She could hear groans of pain echoing through the city, even hours before they were uttered. She felt somewhere in the city a fight breaking out in a bar. One man had already recieved a black eye, another would lose a tooth in a few minutes. Elsewhere in the city, she felt someone with an inner turmoil, wishing to die, ready to take his life at any moment. Two women-one human, another elf-were arguing about something. The human girl was feeling deep anguish inside and the elf was feeling sorrow for her. In the castle, Nasuada's handmaid, Farica, was about to cut her hand with a pair of scissors. A man somewhere nearby just stubbed his toe. Elva felt all of this, wanting to rush to the aid of each person. Yet she restrained herself, growing weak and hungry because of it.
She made her way to the kitchen. The cook raised his head at the sight of her, knowing why she had come.
"Hello, Elva. There's a plate of food at the end of the counter over there. Make sure to return it to me before you leave."
"Thank you, Dominic. Be careful with the hot grease today. You're going to burn yourself if you're not careful." Dominic nodded. The cook was one of the few people who were used to her, not even flinching at the sound of her cynical voice. He listened to her advice, knowing the was telling the truth whenever she predicted an event. Elva sat down with the plate of food and began eating, trying to block all the pain radiating from the city.
