Max stood in front of the front gates to a small village between Gil'ead and Bullridge. They had hired him to defend them from the bandits who were coming because they'd angered them by killing a small party of 5 they had sent down.
Now, the bandits' full force of 32 was descending upon the small village and their small force of 12 militia men to defend them, and they needed help.
Ready, 'Naava? Max asked his partner, who was hiding in the forest nearby to ambush the bandits.
Just give me the signal, and I'll burst forth from the forest and scatter the pathetic worms, Teinaava said with a growl to his voice, making Max laugh.
Easy, 'Naava. Don't get too worked up before the actual fight. It'll come soon enough.
Max turned to the militia mens' leader and said,"We're ready for their attack. Your sentries are in place?"
"Yes, they are," the militia mens' leader said,"They have their horns ready to sound when they see them."
Max nodded.
"Good," he said, smiling,"Don't worry. Not a one of your homes will be so much as touched."
"Thank you, Maxwell," the man said, smiling,"We appreciate your help."
"It's what I do," Max said, grinning,"Now, let's sit back and relax while we wait! No sense in being tense when they're not here!"
