OOC: I wanted to stick this in before Max leaves us to explore strange and distant lands, and also find a way to kickstart Marola's relationship with Marcus. lol. This is about mid-sophomore year.
Marola sat alone in her room, sobbing almost hysterically. Dad and the guys were out tonight, so she was alone. She couldn't believe it; there was no way. But she had tested it three times, and it always said positive. There was just no way she could be pregnant! She was still in high school! And it had been just that one time, that was all! Oooh man...Tyr's not going to be happy about this, she moaned to herself. Not to mention her father. Just the thought brought even more unbidden tears to her eyes. She pulled out her cell phone and searched through her contacts list. She had to tell someone, anyone. She automatically went to Tyr's number, but couldn't tell him, not yet at least. Any of her girlfriends would immediately begin gossiping about it. She spotted the name Marcus. He was that nice, smart guy, wasn't he? She hadn't really talked with him much, but for some reason he seemed like the best choice. She highlighted his number and hit the send button, still sobbing so hard the poor guy probably wouldn't even be able to understand her.

Sitting at the desk in his room, Marcus was studying his history book, trying to memorize key points for the quiz that was coming up. Without looking, he reached for a stack of notes, but hesitated when his phone started vibrating noisily on top of a stack of books. Picking the phone up instead, Marcus flipped it open and brought it to his ear without checking the caller ID. "Yo." he said, leaning back in his chair and giving his full attention to the person on the other end. Was that someone crying? "Hey, is everything alright?" he asked, perplexed.

Marola heard a voice on the other end of the phone and a gush of words between hysterical sobs broke loose. "Marcus...It's...Marola...I'm sorry for....calling you so late....I just needed someone to talk to...and I can't tell any of my friends.....I'm...I'm...I'm...I'm pregnant! I don't know what...what to do! My boyfriend's gonna hate me...and my dad's going to kill me..." She quit trying to talk and just sobbed over the phone for a while.

At Marola's pronouncement, Marcus's eyebrows shot up in surprise. He opened and closed his mouth, struggling for something to say. In the back of his mind, he wondered why Marola had chosen him to call. But, one thing was for certain. That Tyr Valentine was to blame for this. That kid was trouble in every sort of way. And Marola was always clinging to him. Part of him wanted to scold her, but he knew that would be wrong. Besides, the poor girl was already weeping uncontrollably on the other end, which only made him feel extremely sorry for her. "I'm truly sorry, Marola. Is there anything I can do to help?" he asked sincerely. "If you're worried about telling Tyr, I'll go with you. This is his responsibility now too. He has to realize that."

Marola calmed down slightly, her sobs reducing to more like hiccups. She was a little surprised by his offer, but enormously grateful. "Would you please?" she asked, still not breathing regularly. "I need to tell him...I should probably do it as soon as possible...but I can't drive in this state..." She started crying harder again. "What am I going to do, Marcus? I can't have a baby! I'm a sophomore in high school!" An abortion seemed like the best solution...no one would ever even know, besides her, Tyr, and Marcus. But that thought repulsed her. Forget what the media said; she had a baby inside her right now.

Checking his watch, Marcus noted the late time. He didn't really want to drive Marola out to Tyr's right now, not when he had parents who would question him about his departure and a quiz in the morning. But, how could he ignore Marola's sobs? He had to do something to help her, even if it meant taking her out to Tyr's at this very instant. "Here's what you're going to do." he said firmly to her. "You're going to tell Tyr tonight. The longer you hold off telling him, the more you'll want to keep keeping it a secret. If I come to pick you up, will your parents let you out? Perhaps you should tell them first?" he suggested, wondering if Marola's parents would be more of a help than he.

Marola listened to Marcus' advice. Telling Tyr tonight was probably the best thing to do, but letting him know so suddenly was going to have some disastrous effects. "My dad's out tonight. He always takes Eragon and Murtagh out to do something before he takes them to their mom's. Oh, he's going to kill me when he finds out." She realized she was hyperventalating and tried to slow down her breathing. "Can you please hurry?" she asked, her voice wavering again.
