OCC: But they were in Surda. Lathem looked over Jahag. "I felt Jeriah.....I can't refuse the feel of her. I love her, Jahag. I'm not here to kill her or make her join me. I just want to see her." He leaned his head back and closed his eyes. "I've missed her......so much."

OOC: go read my first post on the thread to know where and when all this is. Jahag walked closer to Lathem. Why did you do it? he asked, I was there. I saw you swear yourself to Galbatorix. You were mad! I had to give Jeriah the news. When she received it, it broke her heart to a million pieces, and it nearly broke her mind at first. She has just now begun to heal from the news, though her heart will never be put together again. Your being here will only cause her more pain. She has joined the Varden, Lathem. And do you know why? She joined in a desparate attempt to make you see that you chose the wrong side! Unless you wish to change your mind about joining Galbatorix, you will only hurt her. You must know she will never join him! Even more so now because she has chosen sides. Lathem, Jahag's tone grew softer, think about her before you make any rash descisions. The werecat gazed at Lathem severely.

Tears streamed down his cheeks. "I don't know who I am. I don't know who did that. I.....I....." He glanced at Jahag and sensed Jeriah slowly coming closer. "I'll leave, but tell her this. I didn't do what I did because of her. I did it because......I don't know why I did it. I just had this.....this pit in my stomach. I followed my feelings. But I was wrong. I wish to change that, but I would have to die." He put his hand on Jahag's arm and then disappeared, using magic to teleport himself.

Jeriah cried out suddenly, feeling her love's presence disappear. She had heard his voice and heard what Lathem had told Jahag. She collapsed in tears. "Lathem...Lathem..." she cried, over and over again, her heart breaking all over again. Tears continued to cascade down her face. She felt Jahag's comforting hand. She felt Oranthor reach out to comfort her, hearing him roar mournfully. But she only knew that her love was gone. "Lathem...Lathem...Lathem."

Elaine's head whipped up as her mind felt a strange presence. Jeriah, too, must have felt it, as she walked towards the area the presence emenated from. Carefully, Elaine followed Jeriah, a hand going to the hilt of her rapier. After only a minute, Jeriah suddenly fell to the ground, as if struck by something physical. Tears rolled heavily down her face, and she said only one thing, one name. Worried, Elaine quickly bent down and placed gentle hands on Jeriah's shoulders. A young boy appeared beside her, and she instantly knew it was Jahag. "There's no use continuing lessons today," she told the werecat. "I'll speak with you later," she also said, then scooped Jeriah into her arms.
Leaving the small courtyard, Elaine walked quickly to Jeriah's room, craddling the young girl to her. Arriving at the door, she unlocked it with a word from the ancient language, then set Jeriah onto the bed. Worried, Elaine walked to a chair in the corner and waited for the rider to come out of her misery.
OOC: I did a little bit of godmoding by carrying Jeriah... I can change it easily if you would prefer I didn't!

OOC: I'm okay with god-moding, as long as you don't kill me or anything. Jeriah lay on her bed, though she was unaware of where she was. All she knew was the Lathem was there, and then left. He said he couldn't change what had happened, unless he died. Finally, she yelled, "NO! There has to be another way! I can't let him live like this. I will find some way to free him. And I won't let him die because of this mistakes. I will find a way, so he doesn't die. I couldn't stand it if he died. I couldn't live." She gave a few more incoherent words, then settled into another long bout of tears. She was aware that Oranthor and Jahag and even Elaine were trying to comfort her, but she receded all connection, just living in her grief. Her eyes refused to dry, even after hours of crying. Every time she thought all her tears were spent, more fell. Tears that showed her shattered heart.

Elaine rushed to her feet as Jeriah began shouting. Moving to the side of the bed, she gently laid a hand on the girl's shoulders, trying to calm her. What could she do, though? Thankfully, the young rider fell quiet, and Elaine fell back into the cushioned chair. Her eyes traveled to the werecat. In a soft voice, so as not to disturb Jeriah, she addressed Jahag. "You should have at least allowed Jeriah to speak with Lathem. Maybe them she would have some peace of mind!" A flicker of anger threatnened to dominate her mood, but Elaine quickly reeled it back. Anger would do no good in this situation. Still, she couldn't resist adding under her breath, "I thought werecats were supposed to be wise." Through the bond, Eridor's anxiety traveled through. He worried for Jeriah, and hated that he couldn't stand beside Elaine to help her through it.

Tears fell from Lathem's face as he walked. People gaped at him as he passed them, his face red from his tears. He snapped back into reality when he ran into a wall, bruising his nose. He sunk to the ground and buried his face. "What have I done to deserve this?" He heard a noise in the alleyway that he sat in, but didn't look up. "I'm guessing you have girl trouble. Am I correct?" Lathem ignored him. In a muffled voice he said, "Leave me alone." He heard the person's footsteps as they left and he opened his eyes, staring at the cold and lonely cobble stone below him. "I'm lonely...." The sentence sounded lonely. As was Lathem.

Jahag blinked. Would it have been wise to let her see him as he was? Insane? His clothes were bloody from something, and he was not in his right mind. He was not even in real control of himself. Seeing him would have caused her more harm than this ever will. It would have broken her mind, leaving her only a shell of what she is. Jahag turned back into a cat and jumped on her bed, giving her a quick nuzzle on the cheek. At least this way, she may come out of this ordeal with some measure of contentment. And, maybe after enough training and discipline on her, she may be able to help him in a way she cannot even guess right now. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Simon walked though the streets of Aberon. Not trusting inns, he led the horse he had purchased, with River lying across the horse's back. She still had not awaken, even after over a week of travel. He would observe her at night, whenever he allowed himself a rest. Her eyes flickered wildly under their lids. He would ask himself, "What did they do to you, River?" But he never received an answer. Sighing now from weariness, Simon went on a desparate search for something, someone who could wake his sister from this slumber. His eyes flitted to a young man sitting by the street in such trouble. He wanted to help him, but he knew he had his own troubles right now. He walked past the boy and toward the castle.

Crossing her arms over her chest, Elaine leaned back in the chair, fuming. She hated being proven wrong, as Jahag had just done. "No matter." She replied in merely a whisper. "What's done is done." After a moment of silence, Elaine stood. "I'm going out. Perhaps this Lathem is still around. If so, I must capture him." She smiled slightly. "Perhaps as a captive, and once we've cleaned him up, he may be able to bring Jeriah back." Without waiting for a reply, Elaine swept from the room, closing the door softly behind her. With brisk steps, she entered her own quarters, grabbed a heavy cloak, swung it around her shoulders, and walked back out.
Near the castle entrance, Elaine walked unquestioned through the gates. She continued on until she reached the city streets. Elaine, are you sure this is wise? The rider frowned. I don't know, Eridor. But I can't sit still anymore. Not when there might be even a small chance to help Jeriah. Lathem couldn't have gone far. He's bleeding, after all." A wave of dis-pleasure swept through the bond. Maybe. Or maybe it was just a superficial cut. Elaine, please. You should come back. Elaine stopped walking and considered Eridor's words. I'm sorry, but no. Even if it does Jeriah no good, the boy is still an empire rider. He is a danger and roaming free in Surda. At that, Eridor had no reply, just a floating warning to be careful. Nodding, Elaine continued, her eyes taking the streets of Abernon in every detail.

Simon continued to walk through the streets, looking for anything that minght help him. He suddenly realized that he would have no way of knowing if someone were a magician or not, or if they would be willing to help him. He didn't know if he would be able to talk with the leader of the Varden. All he knew was that he had to help his sister, and that was enough for him. Finally, he just decided to ask if anyone knew of a magician hwo could help him. He gazed around and saw a small woman with brown hair and eyes and decided she would be as good to ask as anyone. He walked up to her. "Excuse me, do you think you could help me with something?" he asked her, trying hard not to sound as desparate as he felt. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Finally, Jeriah gained some composure. Enough to be able to think clearly. What do I do for the rest of the day? she wondered. I can't just sit here and keep thinking about him, or I really will go mad! Eventually she decided to go practice some on her archery. It would at least give her something to do. She grabbed her bow and headed out to the training fields. On the way, her mind wondered back to the little girl who had talked to her about Lathem earlier. She said he would one day be free...but it would come with a price. What price? She had no idea.

Elaine, about to give up and go back to the castle, caught sight of a man with an unconcscious girl. As she stared, he approached her and asked a question to which the subject was obvious. His voice held a note of desperation that was nearly masked. Concern spread across Elaine's face. "Yes, of course. What's wrong with her?" She glanced back at the limp form of the young woman, then back to the tall man. They looked almost exactly alike, she noted. They must be twins.

Simon glanced back at his sister, then looked back at the woman. "I'd...prefer not to talk much about it in the open, but would you happen to know a magician? A strong one? Who can counteract a spell?" He looked again at River, then decided to take her off the horse and carry her. "And do you also know a safe place to stay?"

Lathem got up from the alleyway and walked into the street, his self being replaced by Galbatorix's vessel. His face turned emotionless and he walked with the people beside him, barely being noticed. He then saw the woman that was with Jeriah talking to a young man with his horse and a woman laying on the horse, his face flashed a flicker of sadness, then turned back into a stony, unbreakable wall. He walked past the woman, trying not to get noticed but he knew that she would most likely feel his presence. He flicked his hood over his head and continued walking, trying his best to stay invisible.

Elaine nodded. "Yes. Actually, I beleive I can help you. Come wi-" she broke off as a sudden, familiar presence brushed across her mind. Startled, she looked frantically around, until she caught sight of a boy quickly putting up the cowl of his cloak. Her eyes narrowed. Lathem. About to go after him, Eridor interrupted. Elaine, leave him be. I think Jahag was right in his decision. Until the time is right, we should leave him alone. But he is an empire rider! Indignation washed through her. True. But he also did not harm anyone while he was here. For that, we should show some amount of mercy. Struggling with Eridor's words, she watched Lathem walk away, until he dissapeared down another street. Sighing, she turned her attention back to the two strangers. "I'm sorry about that. There was a momentary distraction. Come on, follow me." Turning, Elaine set a brisk pace back to the castle.
Once inside the castle grounds, Elaine took the man and the girl to a spare room in the guest hall, which was usually designated for nobles. Thankfully, there weren't many nobles around at the moment. "Allright, then. Set her down." She looked at him in concern. "So, what happened? I'll need to know everything if I'm to help her." Careful, Elaine. What if this man cannot be trusted. Is it wise to bring him into the castle! Elaine held back a frustrated sigh. I don't know, Eridor! He needed help, I was there. Just trust me. I know he and the woman are good.
