Jeriah looked into Caleb's eyes. What he was doing seemed like something Lathem would do. The tears kept coming. "I joined the Varden so maybe some day he'll see that he's on the wrong side and he'll come back. I just can't believe he would ever do such a thing." Jeriah leaned her head against Caleb's shoulder, welcoming the comfort it gave her. She sobbed into his shoulder, "Lathem...Lathem, what happened? Why did you do it?"

OOC: Elaine already introduced herself. lol.
Surprised that River had remembered her name, let alone heard her, Elaine smiled. She looked at Simon and nodded. "Of course, it is no problem. As a rider, it is my duty to help those in need." Her eyes darkened, "Especially those who have been hurt by the empire." Elaine's brown eyes traveled to River, who picked at the food on a plate. At the sight of her, Elaine's heart swelled with sympathy. Would the poor girl ever be the same? It was then Elaine realized she know had two young girls to worry about. Jeriah, with her heart break over Lathem, and River, who seemed to be traumatized by what the empire had done to her. Eridor, we need to scout this place out. We need to destroy it! Yes. But we also need to be careful. To do such a thing, we need to bring someone else with us.

River sat up suddenly and looked out the window. She was certain she head someone wailing nearby. Sadness...pain. It seemed to overcome every other thought and feeling around. She stood over by the window and looked toward the training grounds. She saw a girl crying in a man's arms. "Jeriah," she whispered, "Lathem. Sadness." She nearly burst out crying herself. She also felt sadness from the guy out there. "Caleb. Family. Empire. Revenge." She gripped the windowsill tightly and watched the two people outside.

River's words sent a shock through Elaine. How could she possibly know Jeriah!? And who was Caleb? Rushing over to the window, she peered through the paned glass. Upon the training field, near the archery rings, stood Jeriah, embraced by a sad man. At least the young rider had gotten out, Elaine thought absently. She eyed River askance. "Yes, Jeriah is going through a lot right now. Her heart is on the mend." Worried that River was still weak, Elaien placed a gentle hand on the girls shoulder and turned her back around, away from the sad sight of Jeriah's pain. "River, why don't you try eating some more?" I need to get back out to Jeriah. I need to keep her mind sidetracked. Eridor took a moment to reply. I don't know. You have already taught her much. Perhaps you should give her time to think things through. Elaine frowned, unsure.

River turned with Elaine and looked at the plate of food again. Then she looked up at Elaine. The woman's mind was busy about something. River sensed she was troubled. "Trouble," she said, looking back at Jeriah through the window, then at Elaine again. "She's troubled...you're troubled." River suddenly broke down and started crying. Simon rushed over to her. "NO!" River suddenly screamed, "LEAVE ME ALONE!" She grabbed the table that their food was on and threw it across the room, then turned and lay down on the bed. "Leave me alone..." Simon just looked at his sister helplessly, wishing he could do something for her.

At Jeriah's outburst, Elaine leapt away from the girl, her hand instinctually grabbing the hilt of her sword. Fortunately, the overturned table was all that River's episode had disrupted. With her heart beating rapidly from the surprise, Elaine slowly released her sword hilt and turned to Simon, a revelation forming in her mind. "Simon, I think your sister is able to sense people's moods, maybe even their thoughts. It would be best for now if we did leave her alone. In fact, I think we should move her somewhere more private, away from windows." Her eyes glanced back to River, who now lay on the bed. "If she has time to think without hearing voices, she may come around sooner."

Simon was surprised at what Elaine said, but he found he agreed. He walked over to the still form of his sister. "River, Will you let us take you to a place where you can be alone?" River stared into Simon's eyes. After a few minutes, she nodded and stood, putting her hands on her head. All the voices her making it hurt. Simon put his arms around her and looked at Elaine. "Lead on," he told her.

Exiting the room, Elaine set a brisk pace through the halls. She had the perfect place in mind. The room she took Simon and River to was near the center of the castle, surrounded by thick brick and no windows. Originally a storage area, the room had been revamped as another spare bedroom. Fortunately, due to the lack of windows, it was empty. Apparantly nobles enjoyed a view.
After a few short minutes, Elaine arrived at the wood door to the room. She tried the handle and found it unlocked. Smiling in satisfaction, she swung the door open and walked in, finding the place dark. "Brisingr!" she muttered. Gray fire shot from her gedwey ignasia and alit onto the numerous candles, lighting the room ablaze in a soft, pleasant glow. As the fire burned, the gray of the magic was soon replaced with the average orange and red. A made up bed rested in the back corner of the room, while a wash stand sat opposite it. A wardrobe and writing desk occupied the other walls. "I hope this works." She told Simon. After he walked through, she shut the door wood door. Sorry, Eridor. Got to try this. In her mind, she picture the gray dragon rolling his eyes. She almost rolled hers in response.
Picturing the blade of a sword, Elaine quickly built up mind barriers, blocking anyone from entering her mind. Her hope was that this would also block Jeriah out and give her some peace. If it did indeed work, she would have to teach Simon. He seemed ready to do anything to help his sister.

Caleb listened to Jeriah cry until he couldn't take it anymore. "Jeriah, can you show me how you are so good with the bow?" Caleb asked pulling her away from his shoulder and wiping the tears from her eyes. "Forgive me for saying this, but you have beautiful eyes." Caleb said, smiling.

Simon watched Elaine work magic to light the room, impressed. He had seen very little magic before. River glanced about the room with a blank expression on her face. She walked over to the bed and sat on it. Simon turned to Elaine. "Thank you," he said. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jeriah couldn't help herself. The compliment Caleb gave her was so unexpected, she burst into giggles, sad tears still falling down her face. She kept laughing for several minutes. She realized then just how good it felt to laugh. She suddenly felt so happy, and yet so sad at the same time. Through her confusion of tears and laughter, she managed to say, "Thanks." She looked in Caleb's eyes and somehow he reminded her of both Lathem and her older brother she hadn't seen in so long. The way he just came up and talked to her meant more to her than she could ever say.

Caleb could tell that Jeriah was feeling a little better, and that made him happy. "I hope that everything works out for you, now lets get out of these sad moods and go have some fun. What'cha say?" Caleb asked, picking Jeriah up and placing her on her feet.

Jeriah smiled at him and nodded. This guy really did make her feel better. She went out and gathered her arrows that weren't broken. She turned to Caleb. "I guess I'm going to have to make some new ones," she told him.

Caleb laughed and went over to a tree. He sang a dozen arrows for Jeriah, just to make her feel better. He couldn't help but to like this girl and he wasn't going to hide it. "Here Jeriah, a dozen arrows. Think of it as an early birthday gift." Caleb said.

Jeriah laughed. "Or late. My birthday was just a month ago." She took the arrows gratefully. "Thank you," she told him, smiling. She was amazed how Caleb had completely changed her mood. Taking up her position at the archery range, she nocked an arrow and aimed at the center. Loosing her arrow, she it the bull's eye dead on. She turned and grinned at Caleb. "You'd think if they were training someone how to use a bow, they wouldn't have such big bright targets," she told him.

"Well then lets make it harder Ms. Hotshot." Caleb said laughing. Caleb ran out to the middle of the target, but the center out with his dagger, and moved it 500 or so yards away. "Let's see if you can hit that one Hotshot." Caleb said, a little gleam in his eye.
