Jeriah raised an eyebrow at Caleb, stared at the much farther away target, nocked an arrow, turned her head to Caleb, and released. Again, her aim was true. It hit the center dead-on. She shook her head. "Why don't you try shooting a rabbit half-way across the field without damaging the crops?" she asked him, laughing.

Pleased to help, Elaine smiled and nodded. "Your quite welcome. I hate to see anyone in pain." Her smile slipped as her eyes turned back to River. The girl seemed distant still. Could she still here the thoughts of others? Approaching her carefully, Elaine knelt next to her and looked into her eyes. "River," she said in a soft voice, "can you hear anyone in your head? Are there still voices?" Anxious to hear River's answer, Elaine gripped a corner of the blanket on the bed in a tight fist.

River sat on the bed, rocking back and forth. So many voices. They were quieter now, but they were still there. She heard Elaine ask a question. "They're...they're all talking to me...they're" her voice was high-pitched and tears fell down her face as she began to babble randomly, not forming any words, but desparately trying to tell Elaine what they were all saying. She curled up into a ball on the bed, still rocking back and forth. Simon drew near, caressing his frail sister's face.

Her failed plan caused Elaine to sigh and lean her head against the edge of the plan. What else could she do to get this girl away from "the voices"?! Perhaps River would just have to learn to cope with them. Standing to her feet, Elaine looked upon Simon and River. It was apparent the man cared deeply for his sister, and it was apparent his sister wasn't going to get better any time soon. Elaine bunched together as she thought, and it's apparent I'm no good trying to comfort people. Frustrated, and feeling on the edge of tears, she retreated to the door. "I'm sorry, Simon. I really wish I knew what to do." Her eyes traveled back to the girl. "I'm sorry, River." She could feel someone trying to get through to her mind, and she knew instantly that it was Eridor. The gray dragon was probably frantic with worry. He hated being seperated for too long. Still, Elaine dared not let down her mental barriers around River.

Caleb was amazed at how amazing this girl was. She could fight, he knew that much, now it was time for him to show off. "Jeriah, do you have plans for dinner tonight?" Caleb asked, hoping that she didn't.

Jeriah was a little startled by the abrupt question. "No, I don't have any plans." At the mention of dinner, her stomach gave a loud rumble. She realized that she hadn't eaten at all today. She had slept past breakfast and was too miserable at noon to eat. She blushed, embarrassed by her loud stomach. ~~~~~~~~ Simon noticed the troubled look on Elaine's face. "Thank you for everything you've done, Elaine. I think River just needs to rest right now." He stifled a yawn. He hadn't slept for over three days, trying to keep ahead to the Empire soldiers. He looked gratefully into Elaine's eyes. "Really, thanks for everything."

Consoled by Simon's words, Elaine smiled briefly, beginning to relax. Perhaps he was right. Maybe all River needed was some rest. "Your quite welcome." Noticing the exauhstion in Simon's eyes, Elaine opened the door and took a step outside. "You need some rest, too. I'll let you two get some sleep. Good sleep. If you need me, I'll be outside. Just look to the skies." Smiling, Elaine exited the room and softly shut the door.
Outside, in another courtyard, Elaine rushed to Eridor. The massive gray dragon exhaled loudly in relief, bending his neck to touch his nose against his rider's shoulder. "This has been a long day." Elaine said, burying her face against his neck scales. They will get better, Elaine. Jeriah and River. Sometimes the only solution is time. Sighing, Elaine pulled away from Eridor. "Can we go for a fly?" Eridor tossed up his head and barked out a laugh. Of course. You know I'm always ready for that. Smiling, Elaine went to his side and leapt onto his back. He was already equipped with a light saddle, thankfully. Strapping her legs into the saddle straps, she patted Eridor's neck to signal she was ready. With a playful roar, Eridor bent his legs, then launched into the sky. He flew upwards like an arrow from a bow.

Simon nodded as Elaine left. He was nearly asleep on his feet. He turned to check on River. She was staring up at the ceiling with a vacant look in her eyes. The sight of her nearly made him cry. Where was the happy girl he grew up with? The one who could do anything she wanted to as long as she put her mind to it? He hoped she was still in there somewhere and he could find her again. He bent over her and touched her face lightly. Her eyes slowly focused on him. "I didn't think you were coming," she said quietly. "I would never leave you, River," he told her. She closed her eyes and her face relaxed. Simon just lowered himself to the floor and leaned back against the wall, not quite intending to go to sleep just yet. But despite his efforts, he was asleep in seconds.

Uafan panicked. He ran down the alleys in search of the prison. There. He ran through the doors, despite the guards protests, and ran down the stairs to the basement, trying to find Lathem. Uafan found Lathem's cell and was immediately met by the soldiers guarding him. Uafan waved them off. "I just want to talk to him." They hesitantly opened the jail cell and Uafan walked into it, sorrow falling from his face in the form of tears. Lathem lay slumped on the floor, his knuckles bleeding like crazy. Lathem's eyes held nothing, nor did his face. Nothing. Uafan walked forward, only to be stopped at Lathem's words. "Don't. I want to die. I will never see my love again, so why should I live?" His words were drawn out in a way that worried Uafan that he had been struck in the lung. "Lathem.....please. Let me help." Lathem shook his head slightly. "No." Uafan let a sigh of frustration leave him and leaned against the wall opposite of Lathem. "Please, Lathem. I'm your cousin."

Jeriah called out, "Wait! Where is your room?" She nearly had to run after him so he would hear before he got out of earshot.

"My room is right outside of the common room for the Riders. You take your first left in the hall to the back of the big tapestry." Caleb called over his shoulder. Now what to make, he thought. I could make a blueberry dressing with fresh greens and an apple pie. That would be the thing to start with, he would make more as the ideas came to him.

Jeriah heard his directions, then left for her room. Now that Caleb was gone, thoughts of Lathem rushed back to her mind. What had he been doing there that afternoon? And where was he now? Still, she was in much better spirits than when she arrived at the training feild. She started humming randomly. After a few minutes, she realized it was the tune to her first dancesong, sung together with Lathem. I miss him, she thought.

Caleb energetically made dinner, going way overboard on what he cooked. He even cooked some meat for their dragons, the deer was sick anyway, so he was helping out the herd. He just finished cooking when the door bell rang

OOC: lol, he's hopeless! lol! Jeriah was standing at Caleb's door with a huge smile on her face. She was looking forward to dinner tonight. She laughed a little to herself. I hope he can cook, she thought. Oranthor was standing near her, just watching her. He couldn't believe the change that had gone through her. She still showed her sadness, but she had at least been smiling today. Even laughing! Jahag was just as mystified as he was. The werecat kept to the shadows, keeping a close watch on her in case anything might happen to her.
