"Well Balvir, do you think that we've made some new friends?" Caleb asked, cleaning up the dishes. "Yes, Oranthor is very interesting, and I would like to get to know him better." Balvir said. Both Rider and dragon smiled at each other.

OCC: If only you had come sooner, Caleb. Then it would be Lathem comforting Jeriah and Caleb breaking her heart. lol jk Caleb probably isn't half as crazy as Lathem is. Caleb wouldn't be breaking anyone's heart.

River stood behind a wall, watching as a pretty girl with dark blond hair walked off with a large orange dragon and a small boy with white hair. The name Jeriah rushed to her mind. She stood back a ways, then heard another voice in her mind. It was cold, hard, cynical and calculating. The name Elva burned into her mind. River turned around quickly and found the source of this voice. It was a small girl, seemingly even younger than the boy with Jeriah had appeared to be. Elva looked into River's eyes. River tilted her head and tried to understand. Then the girl, Elva, spoke to her. "You best be careful, River. Learn how to block your mind quickly before it is too late." With that, Elva turned and left, her words still echoing in River's mind, along with a million others.

OOC: NEVER! haha
Eridor landed in an empty corridor near the rider's hall. Elaine dismounted, still wide awake. You should try to get some sleep. Elaine sighed. Maybe. But I think the bond is finally starting to change that part of me. I find I need less and less sleep. Eridor growled softly. What? Nothing. I just hope it doesn't change you too much. Smiling lightly, she rested a hand on his thick foreleg. Don't worry, friend of my heart. No matter how I change physically, I'll always be me. Bending his neck, Eridor brushed his snout across his head. Good. Now, go and at least rest. Rolling her eyes, Elaine waved goodbye to Eridor and stepped into the castle.
Instead of heading to her room, Elaine turned down a different route. She wanted to check one more time on Simon, River, and Jeriah. Her boots clinked softly as she strode down the tiled corridor.

Simon awoke with a start and glance around. River was no where to be seen. Now fully awake, he ran to the door and called out for his sister. In his hurry, he nearly ran over a young girl with an orange dragon and a small boy with white hair. He gave the girl a glance, his fear evident in his eyes. "Have you seen a girl about seventeen with dark hair and eyes?" he asked. "No, I'm sorry," the girl replied, showing her own worry at his desparation. Simon passed them and continued to search for his sister.

Headed for the room she had given Simon and River, the sound of hurried footsteps reached Elaine's rooms. Tensing, Elaine sank back against the wall, blending into the shadows between two flickering brackets of fire on the wall. Her hand sank down to grasp the hilt of her sword, Celobra. The footsteps grew closer, until she could make out the shape of a man hurrying down the hall. Narrowing her eyes, Elaine recognized Simon. Stepping from the shadows, she intercepted the man. "Simon? What's happened!?" Her hand remained on the hilt of her weapon. In her mind, she imagined a number of reasons for why someone would be hurrying through Abernon castle. Some of them involved him being a theif, a spy, an assassin. However, by the look in his eyes, she quickly dismissed those ideas. No, something must have happened to River.

Simon looked worriedly at Elaine. "She's gone! I fell asleep and when I woke up she was gone!" The fear was quickly turning into panic. Even though they were out of the Empire, he didn't feel safe enough to have River wandering around the city by herself. He wanted her in his sight at all times. Simon tried to force himself to think about where she would go, but all he could think about was the possiblity that she was in danger.

Trying to calm the man down, Elaine placed her hands on his shoulders and looked deeply into his eyes. "Breath, Simon. The castle may be large, but she couldn't have gone far. And she definitely did not go into the city. The guards would have stopped her, as they do not know her." She continued to stare into his eyes, trying to make him settle down. "Come on, I'll help you find her." Closing her eyes, Elaine opened up her mind, allowing the presence of life within the castle to envelope her. A thousand different emotions rushed through her, a thousand different impressions. For a moment, she wondered if this was what River was always feeling and hearing. Simon's mind was loudest, as he was closest. His worry for River seemed like shouting. After a moment of sifting through the different minds, she came across one that was chaotic. This was not Elva, who had some semblance of control over herself. This was the mind of a woman who was still trying to find herself, to emerge again. Reaching out her mind, she called, Stay where you are, River. Simon is looking for you. Stay. She prayed that the girl would hear and obey.
Returning to reality, breaking free of the many different minds, Elaine opened her eyes and found that her hands were still upon Simon's shoulders. Quickly, she let them fall away. "Your sister is still in the castle, near the riders quarters. Come on, before she decides to start moving again." Giving him a reasuring smile, Elaine turned and walked quickly towards the riders hall.

Simon took a deep breath, relieved that River was safe within the castle. "Thank you," he said, trying to calm his wildly beating heart. ~~~~~ River was trying to think about what Elva had told her, but it was hard to concentrate through all the other voices and feelings in her mind. Suddenly, she heard her name. She wondered for a second if she had thought it herself, but then realized that it sounded like Elaine. She was telling her to stay where she was, and that Simon was worried about her. Through all the other feelings around her, River felt her own guilt. She should have known better than to make Simon worry. The girl stood still and waited for Elaine and Simon to come get her, all the while trying to keep the voices in her head at bay.

Walking quickly, Elaine and Simon soon arrived in the long hall of the riders quarters. Slowly, Elaine looked intently into all the deep shadows. About midway down, she spotted River standing still. Sighing in relief, she pointed out the girl to Simon. "There she is." Approaching her, Elaine smiled while carefully blocking her mind. "Thank you, River. Next time you want a tour of the castle, just ask." Giving a soft laugh, and hoping that the young girl would understand the humour, Elaine looked carefully into Rivers eyes. We need to do something about the voices in her mind, Eridor. A person unused to such a thing can easily go mad. Eridor replied in his deep baritone. Aye. You should teach her to block her mind.
