Elianora smiled at the bird perched on her shoulder. "Hello Fethrfricai," she murmured. She paused. How did she know the name? No one had said it.
The bird cocked it's head and a swirl of feelings entered into Eli's mind. Questions in the pure thought form -- which is thought without words -- floated through her mind. Why was she hurt? What abilities does she have? Where is she going?
Eli answered the bird with her own thoughts, speaking in the Ancient Language to make it easier for the bird to understand. "I am hurt from when my parents died, and from when I lost a dragon hatchling. I am hurt because so much evil exists." She did not answer the question of her abilities with words, but gave the bird pictures of what she could do, and her training.
She ended the procession of pictures, which the bird accepted, with the elven lord that told her she could not enter into the forest. "I am returning to the forest, or at least trying to."
Fethrfricai asked her another question. What was that flash?
Eli hesitated for half a second before replying. She sent the memories of the images into the bird's unusually intelligent mind. Fethrfricai nodded at times and cocked her head at others. When the images were completed, she stroked her head briefly against Eli's face before fluttering back to Ferlan.
The half-elf smiled kindly at the elf, unaware of Mica's offer. "Perhaps you would stay with us, Ferlan? It would be a pleasure to have you and Fethrfricai join us. You were but part of a way through our meal."

Taran regretted leaving the forest, but he had done so many times, and each time it saddened him. He looked out over the land towards Gilead.

Ferlan smiled at Fethrfricai as she returned to his shoulder. The bird sent him a feeling, telling him that Elianora was a friend. He still could not understand why she had decided to speak to her, and she did not show him what the girl had shown her. Ferlan understood why. The bird was extremely curious and often asked him questions about why he did things, such as stayed secluded from all other elves. Sometimes they were questions to which he had not answers. He felt that because of Fethrfricai's reaction to Elianora, there was more to this girl than what met the eyes. Ferlan heard the offer and nodded. "All right," he said, "We will stay for a while. We were not really going anywhere in particular." He sat down near the two women and dug in his bag where he kept his herbs and medicines. He pulled out a handful of seeds and held out his hand. Fethrfricai perched on it and began eating the seeds. He watched the two women silently, waiting for them to begin to speak. He felt a little awkward. It had been so long since he simply sat down and talked with someone, he found he had nearly forgotten how to do it.

OOC: thanks Jeriah
Eli's smile remained as she spooned food from a pot into a spare bowl and handed it into the elf. "There is no meat in it. I rarely eat meat, and since Elyria didn't complain about my cooking, yet, I suppose this is all right. (ooc: is it okay that food "magically" appeared, mica?)" She sat back to watch the bird and elf as one ate, and then the other. They both interested her, so she asked, "Where come you from, Ferlan? And where did you meet Fethrfricai?"

"Ferlan.." Elyria looked to him. "What are you doing so far, from home?" She liked the gentleness this elf exuded but she could sense something else in him. The strength of one who has seen many wars and learned the lessons that no one wins in war.

Ferlan looked from one woman to the other, startled by the sudden onslaught of questions. (OOC: lol, give him a break! He hasn't actually talked to anyone in years! lol!) "Well," he said, thinking over each question, "To answer each question, I live in Du Weldenvarden, away from any cities. I met Fethrfricai one morning several months ago. She was too young to fly and had fallen out of her nest, attacked by another, jealous bird. She was near death. Had I not been practicing in healing, she probably would have died. I healed her and cared for her until she was old enough to fly on her own. Since then, she has stayed with me in gratitude for the kindness I have shown her. As to why I'm so far from home..." he thought it over for a minute, "I'm not certain of this myself, except that I feel a need to look for anyone in need of healing, instead of waiting for them to come to me."

Elyria liked Ferlan. He had a since of honor and a stoicism about him. "Well Ferlan. I hope you decide to stay with us for a while."

Ferlan nodded. "I would like that," he said, though he was still getting used to talking again. He liked both of these girls' company. Fethrfricai tilted her head up to him and gave his mind a questioning thought. Not like that, he told her, though he wondered if that were entirely true.

Eli didn't say anything, but held her hand out to Fethrfricai, invting her to land there. A satisfied smile played across her lips as she looked up at the bright moon. An autumn breeze blew once more through the camp, making the fire flicker. The fire. . . . .
She shook her head, to clear the images that returned to her mind. Tomorrow, she thought. For now I will enjoy having company like I have not had in years. She thought she had not smiled or felt this content in weeks. She looked back at Fethrfricai to see if she would accept her offer. If not, Eli would sleep.

Fethrfricai did hop onto Elianora's hand. She chirruped a little, and seemed to give her a michievous wink. She gave Ferlan a glance back, then looked at Eli again. Then she flew in a small circle around their heads and landed directly in between them, looking at each of the two of them with an eye. Then she looked at Elryria and chirruped again and watched for any interaction between the rest of them for the night.

Elianora watched the bird's exhibitions with bemusement. She smiled at her when she landed in between Ferlan and herself. "What was that about, Fethrfricai?" She laughed and lay back, closing her eyes, but listening to any conversation. While she lay, she analyzed the past few hours, avoiding the flame reading. Strange day, she thought sleepily.

Elyria looked at her new found friends. 'What do you think Domia?' Domia shot a look at her and mused 'I think the bird has too much energy.' Laughing she turned her attention back to their guests.

Elianora drifted into an uneasy sleep, full of phantoms and the fire images. Strange noises echoed through her mind, blurry and loud. Then the fire started. A large flame whirled up in her mind, consuming all thought and feeling in her dream world. NO! Let me go! she screamed as the firse spun closer, encasing her in a solid wall of heat. Screams pierced the flames, hurting Eli's ears. Then another, louder scream soared above the rest. Help me Eli! You must help me!
The fire touched her skin, and she screamed. How can I help you when I cannot help myself? she asked the voice.
But still the voice cried, Help me Eli! You're the only one that can!
The fire consumed all.

Ferlan awoke from his dream-like state, sensing distress. Though all was silent in the forest, he knew all was not well. He looked at Elianora. On the outside, she looked as if she were sleeping peacefully. But he could hear screams in her mind. He could not tell what was wrong, only that she was dreaming something terrible. He did not invade her mind, but he did reach out a comforting trendil of thought, to let her know that he was there and she was not alone. He found himself wishing he could do more for her.

Eli felt the calming tendril of thought, and she used it to power her release her from the fire. Now she sat in blackness, waiting for a light, incapable of anything else. The sound of hoof beats echoed in her mind and she looked around. Was someone coming?
A scream shattered the silence of her mind, jarring her to wakefulness. She jumped to her feet and looked around for the source of the scream, still disoriented. It took a moment to clear her thoughts, but when she did she noticed that the first signs of sun were over the eastern horizon. Next she analyzed the source of the crea,. A man lay still on the ground a few meters away, a horse prancing a further way back, eyes wide with fright. The creature snorted and whined with terror, looking at the dragon. Ferlan knelt beside the man, checking for injuries, Eli presumed.
She turned to Elyria and Domia. "What happened?" she asked.
