Aethelwyne smiled at him. "It is not something I wish for myself love and nothing to worry about." She rose and helped him make ready for the hike. The feeling of Galbatorix lay deep back in her mind.

Taran smiled at her will lifting the bundles onto his shoulders. "That is good," he said. "Now, let's get moving. A little ways up this trail is a place where we can get some fruit for breakfast and lunch." Taran led the way up the steep path, too narrow for a horse or dragon to hike.

Aethelwyne followed him, keeping up as best she could. The path was steep and it was hard to get good footing. Surely this place of his would offer them security. She walked behind him as they climbed ever higher. The air thinned and her breath came to her strained.

After a few minutes, Taran stopped at a small spring. Taking the pack from his back, he sat on the dge of the spring, dipping their water skins into it. "Sit, hun. I'm sure you're tired." Taran gestured for Aethelwyne to sit beside him on the rock. Adurthil and Doc flew close by, struggling in the thin air. 'Adurthil, there is room for you two to land here. Take a break.' Adurthil landed with a thud near them, drinking quickly from the spring. 'Thank you, I am exhausted! There is hardly any air up here!' 'Making it all the more difficult for anyone to get to us.' Taran smiled, the pulled some fruit out of his pack, handing a few to Aethelwyne.

Sitting next to him on the rock. She took the fruit from him. "Thank you love." she said, her breath short from the altitude. She wiped her hand across her forehead, though it was cold, her body was hot. The sweat glistened on the back of her hand. Looking around, she took in the beauty of the height. Doc landing near Aethelwyne, also drank readily from the spring. 'Aethelwyne. I am sorry for earlier. Are we okay?' He looked into her eyes. 'Yes my friend. We are fine and you had right to be upset.' Doc sensed something strange about Aethelwyne. She wasn't quite herself. 'What is it little one?' he asked concerned. Aethelwyne looked at Doc. 'I'm not sure. I feel fai...' Aethlewyne dropped the fruit and fell over onto the ground. Doc roared out mightily with worry for his Rider and his friend.

Taran tried to catch Aethelwyne before she hit the ground, but he could not. Picking her up, he set her near the hot spring. 'The height!' he thought. 'I'm an idiot! She's breathing for three people!' he quickly set about to making her comfortable, asking Adurthil and Doc to help her breath using magic.

Aethelwyne was vaguely aware of what was happening around her. She felt Taran and the dragons. Her breathing coming easier. She lay for a few minutes then as her vision cleared she looked to Taran and saw worry on his face. "It's okay love. I just need to get used to the altitude and everything will be fine."

Taran shook his head. "No. I will pack some more things that we can make do without for now on Adurthil and Doc. I will carry you the rest of the way," he told her, putting his hand up to stop any objections. "Don't try to stop me, love. I can carry you, and I would rather you not be too exhausted. There is much for you to do once we get there."

She looked at him with love in her eyes. He was in one of those moods and no amount of her objection would change his mind. "I will yield to your will my love." She bowed her head slightly to him and smiled. "Just do not expect me to clean unless it is in a bath!"

Taran smiled, picking her up. "Well, I'm afraid that the only bath you can use is the hot spring outside...unless you want to try to clean this one." He walked slowly towards the edge of the spring, smiling at her.

She felt his strength as he lifted her effortlessly. The feel of his touch made her smile as did his gentle teasing. "That is quite alright my darling. I think I can wait." Looking into his eyes, 'I love you!' flowed through their bond. She kissed him as he held her in his arms. He was right. The climb was tiring her greatly. Though she was in excellent shape, she was not used to traversing in these high altitudes and the few times she had, she had not been pregnant or on the run.
She kept her thoughts open, not blocking them from him as he held her. Feeling safe and loved in his arms. 'No secrets.' she thought, 'we are strongest together. She let her thoughts drift to Elianora. Worried about her in Galbatorix's clutches. The feel of his blade crossed her again as she remembered his blade piercing her and with a slight wince, she pushed the thoughts down and concentrated on his love. She felt it strongly and she felt the children within her. Their gift, growing from that love. 'I love you!' flowed through her, over the bond.

Taran felt her love through their bond, saw her worries before his mind's eye. He nearly cried out when the blade pierced her loving heart, but the feelings faded when Aethelwyne put them away. Looking into her eyes, Taran let his love for her and their children spread, grow. "Alright," he said, setting her on her feet. "Time to hop on my back so we can get going."

Aethelwyne felt his love. It gave her strength, courage. She hopped up onto his back, holding tightly to him. Her face near his ear. She whispered her secrets to him as he carried her.

Taran listened to her breath, her secrets. Setting them deep within him, he trudged on. Within an hour of hiking uphill, they reached the place Taran had intended them to stay. Against a large boulder, a small opening showed in darkness. Setting Aethelwyne down, he took a torch and lit it. He walked cautiously through the opening, his sword drawn and at the ready. He reached out with his mind, searching for any presence in the cave. Nothing. He sheathed his sword, then took their belongings into the cave. "I'm sorry, love, but it is not as...homely as yours," he said, coming back out. "But that is where you come in." He smiled at her, gesturing for her to enter. 'Adurthil, you and Doc may land. I'm afraid there is no place for you two to stay inside.'

Aethelwyne kissed Taran lightly as she entered the cave. "Anywhere that we are together shall be home." She looked about. "As long as we are safe and together love, it will be fine." She walked throughout the cave, checking all the little nuances that it held. "Shall we unpack the dragons love so they can explore?"
