Aethelwyne smiled at his words. Watching as he left, she placed the plate and cup on the chair next to the bed. Pulling the covers up, she nestled down into the bed and drifted off to sleep. Her dreams, jumbled and frightening. She felt as if she were in a pit of fire, burning alive. Still asleep, she pushed the blankets off of her onto the floor.
She felt the flames of the house as they erupted around her. She couldn't see Taran through the thickness of the smoke. What had Nashante done to him? She still felt the pain from Galbatorix blade and her heart felt as if he had cleaved it in two as she watched him leave with the children.
She tossed and turned in her sleep, fighting against the vision which was real only in her mind. The fever upon her caused her to sweat profusely.

Taran came back inside, setting the pails of water on the kitchen table. Taking a cloth, he soaked it in the cold water. He walked over to Aethelwyne, seeing the sheets and blankets on the floor. He quickly pulled them over her, then wiped her face with the cool cloth, wiping the sweat away. He lay beside her on top of the sheets, running his hand through her hair. 'Please be alright,' he thought.

Aethelwyne continued her restless sleep as the dreams and thoughts continued to plague her mind. As her fever finally broke, her dreams settled and she settled into a peaceful sleep. After a couple of hours, she awoke. Taran laying beside her. "Hello my love." she said in a weak voice. "What have you been doing?" She tried to rise as she smiled softly at him.

Taran sat up on his elbow when Aethelwyne woke, worry on his face. "I've been here, love," he said, wiping her forehead with a wet cloth. "How are you feeling? You looked like you were having a bad dream."

Aethelwyne looked at him and shrugged her shoulders. "I really don't know love. It was a jumble of blurs and distorted images." She reached out to touch his face. "Really I am feeling alot better now that the fever has broken."

Taran covered her hand with his, kissing it softly. "That is good news," he said, looking into her eyes. "But don't think that means you can get up and do things."

"I cannot stay in this bed Taran. I am drenched, stiff, and sore!" Even though he was with her, she wanted to at least change her clothes. "What am I going to do in bed all day? I will surely go crazy. Besides the time will come when I will need to be in bed." She looked away as she thought of the future. The time when she would be vulnerable. Carrying twins, the day would eventually come when she would need to alter her activity. As they grew she would be unable to fight, unable to travel easily. These thoughts weighed heavy on her mind. She touched briefly upon the dream again. Galbatorix had found her when she was vulnerable. Found her and ended her life.

Silence stretched between Salian and Elianora. A calm, thoughtful silence. The Elianora yawned. "Get some sleep," Salian said, nodding at one of the mattresses. She nodded and laid down.
"Salian," she murmured. "What do you live for?" Then her mind wandered away into the realm of dreams, with Soranai as a safe guard.
"What do I live for?" Salian repeated, also laying down. Thoughts of Marian swirled into his mind, followed by thoughts of Torlynden. The dragon came in and laid down by Salian's bed, without speaking.
Salian slipped out of his shirt, tossing it to the ground. Then he rolled onto the side of the bed closest to Elianora. He reached out with one hand to touch her back, and fell asleep like that, dreaming of an answer.

Taran still sat beside her. "Well, I suppose you could take a hot bath, and change your clothes," he said, standing from the bed. "I'll bring in a large tub and some hot water."

"That would be lovely but I really don't want you to go to all that trouble. I will just go quickly to the spring and back. It will be alright." She made way to stand and the color drained from her cheeks though she kept her footing. She smiled at Taran trying to cover up her weakness.

Taran noticed the change in color in her cheeks, but he would not stop her. "Alright, love," he said. "But I'm going to go with you. I want to make sure you are alright."

Aethelwyne made her way to her fur cloak and put it on, wrapping it snuggly around her. She made her way out the door and to the hot spring, quickly slipping in. The air was cold and she did not feel like staying long.

Taran wrapped himself in a warm fur jacket, then followed Aethelwyne to the spring. He leaned against the wall, watching her.

Aethelwyne finished quickly. It was too cold to stay out long even in the warmth of the water. Exiting the spring she again wrapped herself in her fur and walked back into the cave. Taking a towel she dried off and put on a fresh night shirt.

Taran continued to follow Aethelwyne, he would not let her from his sight. He had gained so much, he was not about to let the elements take it. He waited for Aethelwyne to finish dressing, then gave her some hot tea and hot oatmeal. "Here you go, love," he said, picking up his own bowl and cup. "It's not the best, but it will do."
