Aethelwyne sat at the table and ate the oatmeal. She was hungry. The tea hit the spot. She looked to Taran. "You know darling, we are going to have to talk about Eli, Galbatorix and all the other things we are putting off before long."

Taran sat facing her, spreading his hands on the table. "I know," he said, relaxing into the chair. "What do you think? How are we to plan this? I know Galbatorix will not hold Eli in Uru'baen, there are too many ways into it."

Aethelwyne leaned her head into her hands with her elbows on the table. "We have to figure out where he would take her." She sighed heavily.

Taran nodded, sipping from his hot tea. "There are only a few options that would offer some kind of good defense," he said, pondering the choices. "Helgrind, Tierm, some unknown place."

Aethelwyne thought about what he said as she watched the steam rise in a slowly snaking mist from her cup of tea. "Helgrind." She said absently. Her thoughts ran back across all of the dealings she had had with the Empire and her knowledge of the King. "He will have her taken to Helgrind but will expect us to go to the castle in Uru'baen." She looked to Taran as the plan began to formulate in her mind. "I am afraid we will have to split up my love, unless..." Her mind recalled on man who may help them. Although sworn to protect the King, he may "procure" Eli for them. He was not typical for a man in the service of the Empire. He had a code all his own that governed his actions. "Perhaps.' she thought absentmindedly running her finger around the rim of her cup.

Taran let his eyes stare absently into the steaming tea as his mind raced with possibilities. "Yes," he said slowly. "Helgrind may be our best bet. But..." he paused. "I'm not so sure about us splitting up."

"There is someone who may help us. He is an assassin for the King but he also specializes in procuring hard to get parcels. We would have to travel back to Uru'baen to find him...and then there is the matter of Galbatorix. He may get suspicious if we do not attempt to infiltrate the castle." She looked at him across the table. She did not relish going up against Galbatorix again so soon.

Taran just looked at Aethelwyne, no expression on his face. "Who is this person you would contact? And how can we trust him if he works for the king?"

"His name is Mar. He is an honorable man, even though he works for Galbatorix. I ran acrossed him once. I do not know that he would help. The only other option is to split up and assault Galbatorix at the castle and Helgrind simultaneously." She looked to Taran, unable to read his blank expression. "Do you have another idea my love?"

Taran thought long and hard, trying to find a solution that would allow them to stay together but not having to rely on someone else. "I'm not sure," he said finally. "I want to say yes, but I can't. I would rather us stay together, but I understand if we must split up. The only other option is to ask this Mar for help. Why do you think he may not help?"

Aethelwyne furrowed her brow for a minute. How could she explain Mar to Taran? "He is very old and very wise but walks through life in two worlds. That of his elven heritage and that of his human heritage. He has an oath to protect the King but since we do not threaten Galbatorix by freeing Eli, he may help. I just don't know. He has a very strange code of honor, but he is an honorable man just the same."
Aethelwyne did not like the idea of splitting up either. The rouse with Galbatorix would have to be carefully planned and it would be safer to have more than one to pull it off. If he did not know of the powers of the children, it would be easy to slip out of his grasp.

Taran listened to Aethelwyne attentively. "Well, I still think we should contact Mar. If he can help, and won't betray us to the king, then I see no reason why not to ask."

Aethelwyne looked to Taran with a smile. They were beginning to form a plan. Rising, she made her way to pack so they could begin the journey to Uru'baen to find Mar. "I think we should leave as soon as possible."

Taran stood, following her. He sat on the bed, looking at her and motioning for her to sit beside him. "We need to take it slow, love," he said. "We just got here and you are not feeling completely well. Give it at least another day, then we will go."

Aethelwyne looked into the eyes of her husband. "I know you are right Taran, but Elianora has been captive awhile now. Who knows what Salian is doing to her. I feel like I have to do something." She sat beside him on the bed, laying her head on his shoulder.
