Max shrugged as he sat down. "Not much," he said, pulling his gloves from his hands and resting them on the arm rests of his chair, forgetting about his gedwey ignasia,"When you left, I just kind of kept living at home, and then I left when I was....15, if I remember correctly. I've been wandering around since, making a living in what way I could. "Eventually, I fell into protecting people from bandits when the Imperial soldiers couldn't or wouldn't. I sometimes end up doing it for free, though...which doesn't quite give me food, but....it's nice to know I'm helping people." He laughed at the last part,"But I make enough money when I do get paid. So, I'm fine. How about you? What've you been doing since you left?"

Marola listened quietly as Max told what he had been up to. She sat back and crossed her legs when he asked what she had been up to. "Well, for three years after I left, I was living in Uru'baen. Then I let it be known that I was the daughter of Morzan, and that I had vowed to avenge him, and the king was delighted. He arranged for me to be trained in swordfighting, sneaking, and generally everything a skilled assassin should be. I was considered complete in my training at the age of seventeen. I worked hard to prove my loyalty to the king, and fulfilled all I disagreeignments with all speed and effeciency. His faction of assassins known as the Black Hand desired me to join them, and I did a few pet errands for them. But I never cared for their ways much. "About a year ago, the king gave me an assignment. He had heard that the Varden had recieved twenty dragon eggs, as he had recieved twenty. I was ordered to go and capture as many as possible. It was simple enough to get in. But as I was gathering the eggs to take them, one of them started to hatch. Abandoning all the others, I took the dark green one and fled. By the time I returned to the capital, I was a Dragon Rider."

Max's eyes widened slightly as Marola talked about being a Rider. He suddenly remembered his gedwey ignasia and quickly crossed his hands in front of him, hiding it from view. He just hoped that she hadn't seen it yet. Even though she was an old friend, and he trusted her, he didn't want anyone who worked for the Empire to know he was a Rider. He didn't want to take the chance of being pushed to one side or the other. He preferred to stay in the middle. "So....you have a dragon, then?" he said, raising an eyebrow,"that's...interesting.......I never would have expected that."

Marola smiled a little at his surprise. "I found it rather unexpected, as well. But when I thought about it, it made sense. I suppose you have probably heard by now that I have a half-brother that I never knew about. Murtagh has become a Rider as well. It might be something in our blood. Whatever it is, I am grateful to carry on my father's legacy. "The king was glad to know that I was a Rider as well. In between whatever assignments he gave to me, he had be train as a Rider. Many things have happened since that day. I have even found someone who knew my mother. And you also know I have since become one myself." She sighed as she thought of the many things that had happened to her. She shook her head. "These have been long years," she said.

Max nodded. "They have at that," he said, still trying to get over the surprise of Marola being a Rider. It was kind of difficult to believe,"A lot of things have changed, haven't they?" He just kind of looked off into the distance, thinking about everything he'd been doing the past 5 years as a mercernary, fighting to protect innocent citizens from bandits and the like. It had been a long hard road, but he'd done some good, and that was what mattered to him. "So, enough about all this," he said, laughing,"Know if any of our other friends from way back in the day are still around?"

Marola shook her head. "I haven't seen them," she told him, "I don't even know if I would remember all of them." She sighed and ran a hand through her long hair. "In truth, you are the one I missed the most. You were my best friend."

Max smiled, remembering how him and Marola used to spend every spare second together when they were kids. "Yeah, I know," he said, "We were inseparable. Everyone always used to say the day they saw us apart was the day the world would end."

OOC: HE!!!! Not him!!!! AAAAAHHHH!!!! Bad grammar! Bad grammar! *tears hair out going insane* Sorry...I'm done now. My sister made me slightly grammar-freakish. lol.
Marola smiled sadly at his joke, looking out the window for a few minutes. "For me, it was," she said, "It felt like the entire world fell apart. It's so hard...watching your father get killed. I looked for you for an hour after that before I left Gil'ead. I just needed someone to hold me while I cried." She shook her head. "I never did get anyone to do that for me. I never found you, the servants were all busy when they heard about Daddy. So I just took my horse and left."

Max nodded. "I'm sorry," he said, bowing his head slightly,"But....when everyone was running around because your dad had been killed, my parents took me and left the city for a few weeks. They figured that if they had killed Morzan....they might go after his family and friends, too. "They figured that if I was with you......I'd get hurt. I tried to find you, though....I just never saw you."

Marola nodded at him, emotions masking again. "It's all right. I'm just glad you didn't get hurt. I don't think the man who killed my father was going to go after anyone else, though. I think he got what he wanted before he left. And I think I know what it was now." She shook her head bitterly when she though of the blue dragon egg, which was now a large blue dragon named Saphira, with a young Rider named Eragon.

"No, it isn't," Max said, raising an eyebrow at Marola,"You've been alone ever since it happened, haven't you? You haven't really had anyone there for you......." "I may not have seen you for years....but, you still seem to be the same Rolie I knew back then," he said with a smile,"I can still read you, somewhat, just like I could when we were little."

Marola smiled, just a slight upturn of her lips. Her eyebrows raised. "I have perhaps turned back to my old habits somewhat," she said, "though if you saw me again about a year ago, I think you would scarcely have recognized me. You're right, I never really had anyone during that time, and that really was the way I wanted it. One thing you learn when training to become an assassin is that relationships just get in the way. They make you compromise and put you in danger. I wish I had remembered that whenever I saw...that man." She didn't even want to say Tyr's name. The very thought of him made her mouth turn sour.

Max smiled at Marola. "Does that include a rekindling of old friendships, too?" he asked, grinning and laughing.

Marola smiled slightly. "Yes, it actually does. But I'm not about to let that stop me from doing it."
