Balthazar heard Marola speak but none of it truly registered in his mind as he saw the danger Silva was in. He ran toward her with all his might and leaped into the air, spun and landed in the saddle on Silva's back. He drew his sword and Silva heaved her mighty muscles into the air to confront the diving dragon. Balthazar knew that they were at a disadvantage for the had to fight gravity and the diving dragon would have much more speed. Then a thought happened to find its way into Balthazar's mind. He reached for his magic and began to speak in the ancient dragon to create a hot air pocket between the two dragons, thus creating an updraft between them. This would level the playing field.

Eridor's flared wings were suddenly filled with warm air, lifting him away from the enemy. He roared in agitation, realizing magic was involved. Acting quickly, he rolled away from the bubble of warm air, coming to an angle with the Silva. Pumping his wings down mightily, he surged forward, tail lashing in his battle rage. Drawing closer, he reached out towards the emerald dragon with his thick talons. Upon his back, Elaine braced herself for the impact, erecting mental barriers to protect her mind.

Balthazar did not even try to engage them. Instead he pulled Silva down and away from the enemy and gained speed. He reached for his magic again and this time used it to cause a strong gust of wind back toward those that gave chase. He knew that he needed to aggravate them so they would follow him and leave his friend Marola along. He had heard her say she had recently had a near death experience and did not want that to happen to her here. So he fled with as much speed as Silva could muster, hoping that the enemies would give chase.

Daedalus was on his way back to the Varden when he saw his most hated rival running from Elaine and Eridor. He could not let those two kill Balthazar for that was his mission and none would get in his way. He urged Intrepidus to speed up and give chase to the one who had called himself friends with Daedalus but had betrayed their race.

Eragon made note that another dragon and rider pair were approaching. Elain and her bond seemed to have the situation under control. Saphira snorted in amusement as one of the young riders prided himself on 'saving' her. Let the young ones have their fun. said Eragon. Young ones? Some of them are older than you. Well... we're more experianced. Saphira gave a grinding laugh. She tore at another creature.

Balthazar saw Daedalus approaching and headed straight for him as fast as Silva could take him. With his sword drawn he called out to his rival.
"You will not live this time and no little tricks will save you."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Daedalus called out with his mind to Elain, hoping that she would hear him to stop her attack and let him handle this enemy. He then sped forward with all the power of Intrepidus's wings.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The two enemies came together in a clash of steel, claws, teeth and even fire. Silva got the upper hand at first, clawing a large gash in the underbelly of Intrepidus. But Intrepidus got in a good hit with his tail and struck Silva on the mouth. As the two beasts fought, so did Daedalus and Balthazar. The sound of metal hitting metal rang out through the sky as the attacked. Balthazar hit with a mighty strike to Daedalus, connecting with him on the shoulder and dislodging him from his saddle. Silva broke free of the entanglement and dove for her rider, Silva diving right behind. Balthazar called for his magic again and created another updraft in front of Intrepidus. The mighty dragon was caught in the warm air and was heaved upward into the waiting sword of Balthazar. Daedalus looked on in horror as Intrepidus had his side split open, a grotesque cut deep in her scales by Balthazar's sword. Then he saw nothing as he hit the ground and fell unconscious.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Silva headed up again and then took off away from the fallen foes. Balthazar let loose a long and evil laugh. His most hated enemy, and old friend was now dead and his dragon with him. Galbatorix would want to hear of the demise of one of the Vardens elven riders right away so he and Silva made for Uru'baen with all the speed they could muster, including some magical winds to help push them away from Elain.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Intrepidus came down hard on his side only a few feet from Daedalus. He reached out with his mind to find that his rider was still alive. Intrepidus knew that he had to act fast for them to live through this. He called out for Elain for help, hoping that the ally would allow him into her mind and come to their aid. Then Intrepidus tried with all his being to use magic. It was futile he knew...but then something happened. Daedalus was waking up and his wounds were healing. Daedalus looked over to Intrepidus and started to heal the great wound, but he was too weak. He needed help and called out loud as well as with his mind for Elain, letting the urgency he felt fill his voice as well as his thoughts. Intrepidus was dying and unless he got help there was nothing he could do about it.

OOC: Its a bird, its a plane...no...its...STIGANDR!!! lol
Whoosing passed the battleground, Stigandr had finished off some of the remaining fanghurs. He spotted Marola fall and the odd accompanied group that she now was around. However, she was not the enemy at the moment, for it was a new rider that seemed to be threatening the skies.
Flying passed the castle walls, Stigandr swayed close to allow Einar to hop on. Its about time! Einar growled as he had watched helplessly when he was on the ground. Now, blades at the ready, Einar and Stigandr hurried to aid Elaine and Eridor.
Speeding passed the ground and buildings below them, Einar and Stigandr saw an elven rider fall along with his dragon, whilst his enemy bolted away from Elaine. Help the fallen Rider first; Elaine can handle herself until we reach her. Einar commanded Stigandr, who heeded and dove down to wounded dragon.
Landing with a thud, Einar wasted no time hopping down from Stigandr. Hurrying, he quickly held his gedway ignasia over the immense slice. "Waise Heill!" He proclaimed and a silver light illuminated the wounded area.
Grinding his teeth, Einar pictured the anatomy of the dragon and carefully placed the torn muscles back together. It was strenuous work, but Einar knew that if he did not persevere, this dragon would die.
Stigandr growled and snarled towards the Rider who wounded the dragon. He turned towards Eridor and shouted at him. Make that beast pay for harming a fellow dragon!

Another gust of wind pushed Eridor back, but this time he allowed himself to be carried away. He watched Intrepidus sweep by, and roared in salute to his comrade. Then, hovering in the distance, he and Elaine watched with frayed nerves the battle that insued. At times Intrepidus had the upper hand, at others the enemy. Eridor snarled when the final blow was struck and both rider and dragon tumbled to the ground. Enraged, Eridor snapped his wings down, lunging towards the enemy with a forcefull fury.
Elaine hunched low over Eridor's neck to keep the wind from tearing her from the saddle. As Eridor pursued the foe, she looked over his shoulder, at the limp forms of Daedalus and Intrepidus. She did not doubt that they were dead. A presence brushed against her mind then, and Elaine instinctively strengthened her barriers. She noticed though, that the touch was not harsh, but gentle, pleading. Deciding to take the chance, Elaine lowered her defense and allowed the other presence in. It was the voice if Intrepidus! He and his rider were both miraculously alive! Eridor, we must help them! she shouted, frantic.
Eridor growled, torn. He yearned to tear his enemy apart, yet he did not want to abondon his allies. In his moment of hesitation, Stigandr rushed past, headed for their fallen comrades. And then Stigandr spoke, and Eridor roared to his silver friend and once more pursued the empire rider. Elaine, Einar and Stigandr are helping our friends. Now we must destroy those who hurt them! Elaine nodded and once more built her mental barriers. Under her breath she muttered a quick but effective spell, "Skolir nosu ono gramyr.". No more could Balthazor's magical winds bombard Eridor. With vengeance under his wings, Eridor drew behind Silva, reached out with his talons, and struck.

Balthazar saw the dragon Eridor closing in, completely unhindered by his winds and had Silva dive quickly to avoid the strike of the closing dragon. Then, in mid dive they spun and turned to go up, behind Eridor and back straight up. Balthazar muttered a few words in the ancient language saying, "let our lungs find air and our bodies be warm". Then the two continued to rise with great speed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Daedalus had tears in his eyes as he felt his dragon die in his arms. Then suddenly another rider he did not recognize landed and began to heal Intrepidus. Daedalus did not know this rider but considered himself to be blessed to have this unexpected ally come to the rescue of his greatest friend.

Saphira glanced down. Eragon! Look! Eragon looked through her mind. A rider was holding his dragon, who was being healed by another rider. Lets see if we can help. Saphira dived. she pulled up sharply to land a few yards away. "Can I help?" asked Eragon. He could sense the dragon's life wavering.

Daedalus looked up with eyes streaming with tears and managed to get out only one word, "Please."

Eragon and Saphira joined minds to the point that they couldn't tell who was doing what. Eragon began to mutter under his breath. He was barely aware of another rider joining him.
********************
Vanadoth ran to Eragon's side and joined him in trying to save the dragon. She healed as well as tryed to contact him. You must awaken. Come back. Your rider needs you.

With a roar Teinaava flew inbetween the two fighting dragons, staying there in the middle of the air. STOP!!! he said to both of them, facing the one who was being most aggressive,Let us leave! It's mine and my Rider's fault that this happened. Please, allow these two to leave. We will all leave now, if you just leave us alone!

Eridor hissed as the gold dragon flung himself before his path, blocking him from Silva. Eridor tucked his wings and barely managed to avoid colliding with the gold, swiveling around him agily. If you try to protect him, then you are with him! Eridor snarled vehemently. This is a war, hatchling. I can't just let him go. Having fallen behind in his chace, Eridor beat his wings quicker, trying to regain height and distance.
Upon Eridor's back, Elaine glanced over her shoulder at the gold dragon. She knew not what he said, but she could tell he did not want this fighting. She looked at him sadly, then hardened her features and faced forward. The foe must be taken down.

Balthazar and Silva continued their ascent until the air was so thin that without his magic he would have passed out and frozen, but thanks to the enchantment he had cast over himself and Silva they were unharmed by the harsh conditions of this thin air. When they were high enough that he was sure that Elain and Eridor could not follow and then headed toward the empire again.
Remind me to thank Galbatorix for teaching me about the dangers of flying too high. I don't think those two will know what is happening if they get up here and we should be clear for the empire, but I don't want any more surprises. Keep alert for any incoming enemies. Balthazar said to Silva. Silva gave a swift nod and continued with all the speed she could muster in this thin air.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Khaos was walking along the road and had seen everything from afar and was no running with all the speed that he could. Argentum was flying ahead and scouting for him and he soon came to the injured dragon and the other riders trying to heal him.
"Please, step aside." said the ancient rider as he approached the mighty beast, "Let me take care of this."
He then raised his hand and his insignia started to glow. The wound on the dragons underbelly was healed fully in a matter of seconds.
