Arms crossed, Teodora resisted the nervous anxiety that threatened to engulf her. This was the day that Tristan had said the ancient would arrive. This was the day battle was supposed to happen. She stood next to Tenal Ka, along with some of the Nighthawks. The whole camp seemed hushed, expectant. Her eyes strayed towards Tristan. At least he was here, to help protect the queen. Before he could catch her staring, she looked back to the ground. That stubborn, crazy man had better keep his hide intact, she thought grimly, or she would have to give him a lashing herself. ***
Trinn and Thora eyed the skies carefully. They had been expecting Sidhion for days now, but this day in particular was cause for extra precaution. Thora had flown high into the sky, higher than normally she might. Miles and miles of land stretched before them. Squinting, Trinn thought she saw a dark mass, on land. The mass was still, however, unmoving. She knew, though, that it was not a natural formation. ***
Vana stood with her hands clasped behind her back. Her red cape fluttered behind her as she stood and surveyed her battalion. Viel crouched beside her, eying the soldiers and riders alike, the tip of her tail twitching. The army had stopped here, to await Sidhion's attack on the Varden camp. Once he had engaged them, then Vana would move in to take the camp by surprise. The battalions of the other generals would be in position now too. All they had to do was wait.

Tristan stood silently as he stared out into the fields and plains of Dras-Leona. He turned his head to watch Tenal Ka for a moment. "Do you think he'll be here?" Tristan asked, and noticed out of the corner of his eye, Teodora's head turn toward him. He glanced over, but he appeared she was just staring at the ground. Odd. He thought she was looking over at him. He absently wished he caught her. He smiled to himself and turned back to face the horizon. Sidhion was said to appear, but it was quiet...too quiet.
*** Stigandr's tail whisked back and forth in anticipation of the battle. He and Einar had just returned from visiting Gianna and Gladia; a short visit that displeased the great dragon greatly. He felt uneasy to be away from his mate.
Einar stared out from the back of the Ismalian and Varden troops, his eyes scanning for the smallest movement that was unnatural. He said he would be here...he wasn't lying.
*** Kyler and Typhon were located in the off shoot battalion, in order to support them when they would launch their sneak attack against the Varden. He had no interest in the Varden at the moment. His target: Sidhion and Locien. Hopefully the information that he fed to Einar and Tristan would prove beneficial. He had hoped that the other Ancients would be able to weaken Sidhion, just enough for Kyler to face him. He sighed. Vana would not be pleased with him for allying with Einar and Tristan. Typhon snorted. Worry about it later, my Rider. Besides, she will understand. We must eliminate the major threat. Kyler gave a mental nod, waiting...
*** Out of the silent night, a bugle of a dragon was heard. Its cry was piercing and louder than any dragon Tristan had heard. He resisted the urge to clamp his ears. Suddenly, shooting out of the clouds, a massive inferno shot directly where the Ismalian army was located. "He's here!" Tristan shouted as Locien's mass appeared. Tristan resisted the urge to shiver.
A cry of anguish was heard behind him then. Tristan swerved behind him, spotting Romulus slaughtering the Ismalian troops. "What is that crazed man doing?!" Tristan shouted, unleashing his sword.
*** Romulus' motions were fluid and exact as he attacked the next Ismalian soldier, creating an open path right at Tenal Ka. His eyes were flashed green and his face was emotionless. "Give me what is mine, Queen!" Rom's voice shouted, but it didn't sound exactly like Rom. He's voice sent chills to Tristan. "Stay back, Tenal Ka, I'll deal with him!" Tristan charged.

The stillness was maddening to Stefan and he and Jueru flew over the encampment. The deep breath before the plunge, some might call it. He could think of nothing to do as the silence continued ominously. The whole of the Varden seemed to feel it. ~~~~~ Tismri watched the skies. The sun was shining so brightly, it was almost blinding, not a cloud to be seen. It was funny how some of the greatest writers would always depict their battles in stormy conditions, the sky at the very least overcast with clouds. It was almost as if the weather was trying to defy the bloodshed that was fast approaching. She kept her mind open for any breech in their defenses. Her hand hovered next to a seemingly empty pocket of air, in which she had concealed the emerald Tenel Ka had entrusted her with. Sidhion could not enter it even if he wanted to. Only Tismri held the key within her mind to open it. She stiffened suddenly as noise was heard below, within the Varden camp. Ismrolde wheeled about and scanned the ground below. There, she said, and Tismri saw a lone man cutting through the battalion guarding the Ismalian queen. ~~~~~ "He will be here," Tenel Ka replied to Tristan. "Of that I have no doubt." She glanced up at the sky where Caedus was hovering low overhead, watching the troops intently. The queen was not surprised when one of their own started attacking the troops. This was one of the scenarios she had anticipated in her mind. But she was momentarily stunned by the enemy's choice. Romulus was loyal. She even counted him as a friend as well as an ally. To see him coming after her in such a way...but no. That wasn't Rom. That greenish glint in his eyes did not belong. She drew her sword even ask Tristan leapt to protect her. She stared down Romulus coolly, her gray eyes stoic. "There is nothing here that belongs to you, thief," she replied. "Soldier! Restrain him, but do not kill him."

The cry of Sidhion cleaved the quiet, snapping the attention of Trinn and Thora away from the dark mass and towards the imminent threat plummeting from the sky. Quickly Thora twisted about and sped towards Locien's icy mass, her own emerald scales gleaming like a forest canopy. Without hesitation, Trinn reached into a satchel and drew out the emerald. She placed the gem in a pocket she had sown behind her breastplate, so that it would be able to feed her energy without tying up her hands.
As they sped towards Locien, Thora cried out a challenge, her own roar shaking the night. Trinn unsheathed Vanta and braced herself for the fight. The power of the gem made her feel giddy, but she remembered the taint of its power. "Letta brisingr!" she shouted, and the pillar of fire shooting from Locien's maw was deflected from the Ismalian troops. ***
Teodora jumped in front of Tenal Ka as Romulus turned on them. Stupid men! she cursed under her breath and drew her nun-chucks. Of course Tristan went to duel the man, and Teodora found herself cursing. The nighthawks drew in a tight circle around both her and the Queen mother, somewhat obstructing her view of the duel between Tristan and Romulus. ***
Nasuada's war horse shied at the sound of the dragon's roar. It took considerable effort to calm the beast and keep it from bolting. Her army lay before her on the opposite side of camp. She was surrounded by her riders and the nighthawks, as well as the more ordinary soldiers and cavalry. On the other side of camp she heard the cry of soldiers being cut down. This confused her to no end. Was their a traitor among them? ***
Gianna stared into the camp fire, her eyes distant. Gladia lay behind her, keening every so often. They will be alright. Gianna insisted, though her stomach was tied up in anxiety. Biting her lip, she continued to stare into the fire. She had not been pleased to learn that Einar was returning to the Varden because of an imminent battle. At the time, she had insisted on accompanying him. Yet he had insisted that her place was here, with the tribe. In the end she could not persuade him, and even the members of the tribe rallied against her going. So she sat, helpless, as her husband entered into a fray that might part them forever.

"You and your kind are no longer worthy to have it!" Sidhion exclaimed in a hiss through Romulus' lips. "I will bring purification!" He yelled out as a soldier charged him. Romulus easily deflected and dispatched the soldier easily. He spotted the Nighthawks gathering around the Queen Mother. "That will only delay the inevitable." He shouted. "Delay this!" Tristan shouted as he shot into the air, his blade above him as he intended to strike Rom down. As he did so, five other soldiers charged Rom in all directions, making sure he didn't escape. "Fools!" Rom muttered a spell, the greenness of his eyes still in place as he latched himself onto the Green Emerald. The soldiers, including Tristan, whose blade was just inches away from Rom's face, all flew backwards, pushed by a strong wind. Tristan, using the wind, flipped around, allowing him to land easily. He charged again, not wasting time. "Pathetic fool!" Rom sneered and not wanting to waste any time, used Rom's amazing elven speed, mixed with the Emerald, to twirl around Tristan, slashing him on the back and on the front.
Tristan stopped, stunned. A controted expression on his face as his ears no longer heard. A quizzical expression was on his face as he fell to his knees, blood pooling from his front and back.
Romulus, not even blinking, knew his blade had done the trick. He headed straight toward Tenal Ka and the Nighthawks, uttering another spell that would make them move out of his wave.
*** Romulus stared in horror as he watched Sidhion use his blade to cut down his friends. No!! He screamed in his mind as he watched the scenes displayed before him. Leave the alone! He yelled and screamed, but to no avail.
*** Locien roared again at Thora as the massive dragon came toward him. Upon his saddle, sat Sidhion, who was in a trance as he controlled the half-elf below. He hoped this distraction would allow him enough time to claim the Emeralds from Tenel Ka.
The Icy dragon bolted toward Thora, intending to collide, all the while, making sure that Trinn had no access to Sidhion.

Tenel Ka watched as Sidhion, through Romulus, continued to cut his way through those surrounding her. She could tell the ancient would stop at nothing to get his hands on her Emeralds. She felt a flare of anger erupt when Tristan when down, but stayed calm. Men would undoubtedly fall in battle. Fate would decide if Tristan, or even she, lived to survive this day. If not, then she would mourn when the battle was over. For now, she focused on her goal: protect her Emeralds and take the one away from this twisted man. She calmly motioned the Nighthawks assigned to protect her to move out of the way. They would only be tossed aside before such powers as the Emeralds possessed. A blue aura surrounded her as she drew from the power of the last remaining Emerald in her possession, the other two having been given to Tismri and Trinn. "We shall see who is worthy to wield them," she replied, countering Sidhion's wave with her own. She'd had long exposure to the Emeralds, and she'd studied the limits of their powers, which were difficult to measure. She understood more about them the more she studied them. "They were given to my people, not yours. And so I shall be the one today reclaiming what is rightfully mine." She gazed for a long moment into Romulus' eyes, wondering if he was aware of what was happening. She assumed he would just be unconscious. ~~~~~ Tismri observed the battle below for a few moments. It seemed Sidhion had taken possession of one of the Varden. It would do her no good to search there. Instead, Ismrole wheeled around and flew after Thora. For a moment, she flew very low, nearly brushing the ground with her talons, and Tismri took the opportunity and landed gracefully on the ground, silently. She watched as Ismrolde joined her green friend in the sky, biting at Locien's tail as she approached. Tismri speculated for a moment or two. Sidhion was riding on Locien's saddle, in a trance, and the icy dragon seemed intent on keeping everyone away from him. She drew upon the power of the Emerald, taxing her self-discipline to the max in order to keep herself from being immersed entirely in its power. Then she formed a spell that would bend light rays to render herself invisible and another that sent her soaring into the sky with the rest of the dragons. She evaded the struggles carefully, looking to get close enough to Sidhion to steal his Emerald.

OOC: Everyone is welcomed to join this thread!!!! Here's the low down so you all know what is going on:
This is a continuation of the thread "Joyous Returns". The Ancient Sidhion and Locien are attacking the Varden right now. They possess the Green Emerald that makes them super powerful. Sidhion's main purpose is to claim all the Emeralds from Tenal Ka, who has most of them. The Ancients Trinn and Tismri have been given Emeralds to stop Sidhion and Locien. Queen Mother Tenal Ka is facing Romulus, a Varden warrior, who is being possessed by Sidhion at the moment.
They are all located in Dras-Leona, with the Ismalian army led by Queen Mother Tenal Ka. This is where the main battle is located right now, since Romulus is about to attack Tenal Ka.
The Varden are also with the Ismalian army, but just nearby. Lady Nasuada is across camp with her Nighthawks, along with other Riders. They are just beginning to realize that the Ismalian army is being attacked by one of their own.
Unknown to the Varden or the Ismalian army, the Empire has surrounded Dras-Leona on three sides, using the opportunity of Sidhion's attack to attack the Varden when they are weak. In the main group, Rider Vana and her dragon Viel are leading. In another, Rider Kyler and dragon Typhon are waiting for the go ahead to attack. This battlion is smaller. The remainder battlion currently doesn't have any main person/character there. Any one can be placed anywhere. So, feel free to join people! Its time for BATTTTLLLLLLEEEEEEE!!!!

Mammon had waited for battle for a long time, he sat in front of his battalion waiting for the signal. He knew Sidhion was currently engaging the enemy, the emerald he possessed was an ancient magic, something Mammon coveted openly. "Why aren't we hunting Therin?" Baal's voice boomed in his head. "Because I want to spill a little blood and he is already here." Mammon said as he remembered the sting of.Therin's blade, he would have his head today.
Raegis and Vylrin heard shouts and commotion coming from somewhere in the ranks, Raegis sprinted through the lines towards the sound of battle. The sight he saw he would never forget, Romulus was attacking his own allies, for what reason he was not sure yet but for some reason he doubted it was Romulus. He said a quiet prayer to the gods above and then charged Romulus, even if he didn't tackle him, and Romulus killed him, at least he would open him up for an attack. "I love you." He said as he touched his wife's mind.

Jaygon stood upon Turma's back looking down at the battle from where she flew high up in the sky. They saw Riders fighting over emerald that must have held a ancient magic.
Jaygon shouldn't we help? Turma asked looking back at her rider for a second.
No, we cannot risk openly showing which side we are supporting. The time isn't yet right, Jaygon said. He knew this would be hard for Turma to understand.

Amber flew, letting her wings wide out to catch more air. She felt Marie's anticipation for battle. They were well prepared, too. Marie had stored countless energy in a few gems on her sword handle and even more on the blue gem necklace she hung around her neck. They were getting nearer, Amber heard yells and battle cries in the distance. Jason sat on Midnight as he followed Amber, and held onto a neck spike as he dived to catch up with her. OOC: I have to go. Could have written more, too... Can Marie posess an Emerald?

OOC: Marie, I'd rather not for several reasons. First, there is only one Emerald that has yet to be found. If you wanted to have one, I would prefer you post a thread first explaining how you found it. Secondly, if you did have one, you couldn't do much with it, because the Varden are under the command to turn them over to Tenel Ka since she is considered by them to be the rightful owner. Even if you thought up an excuse to hide it, if you used it power for anything, it would be obvious because of the pure, raw sea of power they provide to even the slightest of spells. The three Emeralds in the Varden's (and Tenel Ka's) possession have been distributed between Tenel Ka and the two ancients Tismri and Trinn, the only people anyone felt even mildly comfortable trusting with them. I am sorry. However, if you want, you can have your character at some point find the violet Emerald and attempt to keep it from Tenel Ka for whatever reason. Just please keep in mind that the purpose of the Emeralds is that eventually, and some point probably in the very distant future, they will all come into Tenel Ka's possession so that she can correct a great evil in the world.

Horror shot across Teodora's face. She watched in dismay as a bloody line formed on Tristan's chest, and he fell agonizingly slowly to his knees. Her horror increased when Tenal Ka motioned the elite Varden guards aside. Gripping her weapon tighter, she stood just behind her queen. Romulus's eyes seemed vacant, and it was evident that the man was being possessed. As she tried to figure out a way to stop this madness, she felt a surge of power come from Tenal Ka. The feeling of magic repulsed her, and she cringed away from the touch of it despite herself. It wasn't magic that was evil, but the emeralds... Teodora cringed again when another giant dragon roared in the sky, directly above them. Daring a look up, she watched in fascinated dread as Thora crashed into Locien. ***
Flaring her wings, Thora jerked her body up so that she could come at Locien with all four of her legs, her thick talons reaching for his body. Trinn had placed her a safe bubble-like ward that kept her from being jostled too badly from the collision, though she still felt a dull reverberation echo through her body. As Thora rolled across the sky, locked with Locien, Trinn tried to get a good look at Sidhion. For a moment he was in her sight, and he sat oddly still despite the dragon's struggle. Frowning, Trinn looked down at the armies below. There was a flurry of motion with the Ismalian troops, and Trinn felt her heart drop.

Raegis ran short of hitting Romulus, he watched as a young man fell to his knees. A horrific gash cut deeply into his chest. He calculated his choices quickly, he could either stop his advance and see his wife again, or defend the elf queen who never trusted him. Raegis made his final decision, he drew his blade and stepped towards Romulus. He muttered something under his breath and instantly the normal Varden soldiers stepped back. "You there, Romulus, turn and face me. Whatever has its grip on you will either be cleansed or one of us will fall." He shouted issuing his bold challenge.
